In Fall 2024, DARN conducted a Qualtrics survey on the experiences of disabled students, faculty, practitioners, and researchers in the field of psychology. The sample included 131 individuals, with career status ranging from current undergraduate students to practicing clinicians and tenured faculty and administrators.
Key findings include:
3/4 of respondents requested reasonable accommodations
Only 42% received all accommodations requested
3/4 of students reported discrimination and/or microaggressions from faculty
2/3 of respondents reported experiencing barriers during graduate school and employment
Most commonly reported barriers were difficulty obtaining accommodations, lack of clear expectations, and lack of flexible work
Regarding the presence of disability community, 2/3 knew a disabled student, 1/3 knew a disabled faculty member, and only 3% knew a disabled administrator
